Strong Minds, Stronger Men: Why Men’s Mental Health Deserves the Spotlight

June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, a crucial time to break the silence surrounding the emotional struggles men face every day. While society has made strides in mental health advocacy, one group continues to battle stigma, shame, and isolation—men.

The Silent Struggle

Statistically, men are less likely to seek help for mental health issues. Too often, men are taught to “man up” or “tough it out,” to keep emotions bottled up, and to carry the weight of the world without complaint. But silence doesn’t equal strength. Carrying everything alone doesn’t make you stronger—it makes things heavier. Silence leads to nowhere and this outdated definition of masculinity is having a devastating impact on men every day.

Men are significantly more likely to die by suicide compared to women. Many struggle with depression, anxiety, trauma, and substance use—but their pain is masked by an outdated expectation of what a man is or should be.

Why Raising Awareness Matters

Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month is not about pointing fingers—it’s about opening doors. It’s about creating safe spaces for men to express vulnerability, seek help, and know that emotional honesty is not weakness—it’s strength.

When we talk openly about mental health:

  • We reduce stigma.

  • We encourage early intervention.

  • We save lives.

How You Can Support Men’s Mental Health

Whether you’re a man yourself or supporting one you care about, here are a few meaningful steps to take:

  1. Check in with the men in your life. Ask how they’re really doing—and listen without judgment. Get into the habit of asking three questions - How are you? Are you ok? What do you need from me? Three simple questions can open a conversation that could be life saving.

  2. Encourage open conversations. Make it normal to talk about stress, emotions, therapy, or mental wellness. The more conversations that are happening, the more opportunities for growth, change and learning.

  3. Use your influence! In a world where everyone is an influencer, use yours to set an example and model healthy behaviors. Seeking therapy, setting boundaries, and managing stress sets a powerful example.

  4. Share resources. Recommend therapists, support groups, websites, podcasts or even apps designed for men’s mental health. Every resource isn’t for everybody, but you never know which one will speak to someone who needs to hear it.

Therapy Is for Men, Too

Therapy isn’t just for when things fall apart.
It’s a proactive tool that helps men build emotional resilience, deepen self-awareness, and improve the quality of their relationships. It’s a space to learn how to manage stress, cope with life’s challenges, and grow in confidence—not a last resort, but a resource for living more fully.

There’s strength in asking for help.
Choosing therapy is an act of courage, not weakness. It's a step toward showing up fully for yourself, your family, your career, and your future.

Let’s normalize the conversation. Let’s rewrite the story.
Because mental health is health—and every man deserves support.

This June and Beyond

Let’s redefine what strength looks like. Real strength is showing up. It’s being honest about your struggles. It’s choosing to heal. During Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month—and every month—we challenge the stigma and stand beside every man on his journey toward mental wellness.
